First Carlist War (1833-1840): Battle of Ormaiztegui (3 January 1835), 1845. The four liberal columns of Espartero, Jáuregui, Iriarte and Carratalá gathered together and occupied the hills of the town of Ormaiztegui, all of them under the command of General Carratalá. Knowing that Zumalacárregui's Carlist troops were close by, they decided to attack. After hard fighting, Jáuregui's troops had to retreat to Ordizia. General Carratalá and the rest of the liberal army headed for Bergara with the Carlists in pursuit. From "Panorama Español, Crónica Contemporánea", Vol III, Madrid, 1845.
