Quarrel between Cardinal Alberoni and the Mayordomo mayor of the King, duke of Escalona, during the illness of Philip V (1891). Giulio Alberoni (1664-1752), Italian diplomat, statesman and cardinal of the Catholic Church. Appointed official representative of the Duke of Parma in April 1713. He was the principal adviser to King Philip V of Spain. No one was allowed to enter the Royal Chamber except those authorised by the queen and Alberoni. Alberoni asked the Duke of Escalona not to enter the room, to which the latter became indignant. The queen witnessed the scene as she was sitting at the king's bedside. Scandal in the King's Chamber.
