Temptation of St Anthony, 1886. The Temptation of St. Anthony is considered one of the most important works of the artist, who captured this topic exploited since the Middle Ages in an unusual way. Wedrychowski depicted a hermit immersed in deep meditation. Smoke billows from the fire in the background, from which a charming female figure emerges, a harbinger of the torment that awaits the hermit. The sparingly defined surroundings, the cross lying on the right and the book supported by the skull emphasize the ascetic way of life, practiced by the Coptic monk.
