The Royal Agricultural Society at York: general view of the show-yard, 1883. 'Our Illustration presents a general view of the show-yard, on the Knavesmire race-ground, adjacent to the city of York, where the annual show of the Royal Agricultural Society will be held next week...The exhibition will be strictly confined to articles for agricultural purposes, but will, of course, include all kinds of implements, seeds, and manures of service to the farmer in the cultivation of his land or the management and feeding of his live stock...The show will remain open until Friday evening. The railway companies are making special arrangements to take visitors from all parts of the country'. Note men unloading 'fodder' (ie hay) in the foreground. From "Illustrated London News", 1883.
