Complutensian Polyglot Bible, 1514-1517. Page from the first printed polyglot of the entire Bible, initiated and financed by Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros (1436-1517). Printed in Alcala de Henares in 1514-1517. It was not until 1520, after receiving authorisation from Rome (Pope Leo X), that the book was distributed. A polyglot is a book that contains side-by-side versions of the same text in several different languages.
