Wheel of Fortune, c1520. A king presides over the wheel with a woman representing Fortune in the centre. Men cling onto the outside of the wheel; noblemen and serfs are equally powerless to escape the wheel's turning which symbolises mutability, bringing about changes in the lives of rich and poor alike.
