Parliamentary journal of Sir Simonds d'Ewes, c1640. This is part of a journal by d'Ewes of the proceedings of the Long Parliament between 1640 and 1645, the period when the conflict between King Charles I and parliament escalated into civil war. The final paragraph summarises a speech by John Pym, the leading opponent of Charles and his ministers. The third to sixth lines read: '(A) designe to alter the kingdome both in Religion and government this is the highest of Treason this blowes upp by peece meales and almost goeth through their ends. This concerns the King as well as wee...'.
