Cardinal de Fleury, c1738. Portrait of the French cardinal, Andre-Hercule de Fleury. He never assumed the title of prime minister, but was very influential in French politics. He also suggested sending a scientific expedition to the far north and to Peru to measure the degrees of the meridian.
