Correspondence between Great Britain and the United States relative to the treaty lately concluded at Washington: including instructions from the Earl of Aberdeen to Lord Ashburton, 1842-43, 1843-04. The major roadblock to establishing a treaty was British board-and-search tactics. The Webster-Ashburton Treaty resolved that issue, and also finalized Maine's boundary with Canada (British North American colonies). This document, "Instructions from the Earl of Aberdeen to Lord Ashburton," deals only with the issues involved in the slave trade.
