Needlecase Sampler, England, late 18th century. 'If all my earthly friends should die / And leave me mourning here / Since God can hear the ORPHANS cry / What have I to fear/ What friend have I in heaven or earth / What friend [illegible] / My father dead my mother dead / My God remember me / Where shall the child of sorrow find / A place of calm repose / Thou father of the fatherless / Pity the ORPHANS woes'.
