Emperor Napoleon I (1769-1821) bestows the croix d'officier de la Légion d'honneur on French painter Jacques-Louis David, greatest painter of the Revolution and of the Empire. Behind Napoleon is Dominique Vivant Denon, director of the Musée Napoléon (the Louvre), and Crétet, minister of the interior.
