'Thomas Stanley, Earl of Derby', (early-mid 19th century). Portrait of English nobleman Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby (1435-1504). At the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, Stanley and his brother William betrayed King Richard III. Thomas is alleged to have retrieved Richard's lost crown from the battlefield and placed it on the head of his stepson, who became King Henry VII.
