Bodies of typhus victims, Corfu, Greece, c1915. Typhus appeared among refugees and prisoners in November 1914, and spread rapidly among the troops. One year after the outbreak of hostilities, typhus killed 150,000 people, of whom 50,000 were prisoners in Serbia. Photograph from a series of glass plate stereoview images depicting scenes from World War I (1914-1918).
