Carter Building, Houston, Texas, USA, 1914. Vintage postcard showing the exterior of the building and the surrounding streets. Built by businessman SF Carter, the 16-storey Carter Building was Houston's tallest building when it opened in 1910. It was known as 'Carter's Folly' because Houstonians believed no building that tall could be safe. In fact Carter went on to add another 6 storeys to the top of his building perfectly safely. It was later renamed the Second National Bank Building.
