Betancuria, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands. The city of Betancuria is named after Jean de Béthencourt, who conquered the island for Spain, and was founded in 1404 by Béthencourt and Gadifer de La Salle. It was the main settlement of the central part of the island until the 1800s.
