Experiments with Captain Fowke's pontoon bridge on the Serpentine, Hyde Park, London, 1860. Francis Fowke (1823-1865) was a British architect and engineer commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1842. As well as his military innovations he was also the architect who designed the Royal Albert Hall. A print from The Illustrated London News, 11th August 1860.
