Carnasserie Castle, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. This tower house was built in the 1560s for John Carswell, Rector of Kilmartin and Chancellor of the Chapel Royal at Stirling. When Carswell died in 1572 it passed to his patron, the Earl of Argyll. The castle was blown up in 1685 after the 9th Earl was involved in an uprising in support of the Monmouth Rebellion against King James II of England (James VII of Scotland).
