'Smithfield sharpers, or the countrymen defrauded', c1787. Seven men round a card table in a Smithfield tavern include two countrymen, one old and sleeping, the other young and innocent inspecting his cards. The townsmen, including the young man's opponent, look on with crafty expressions while a barmaid chalks up a score in the background.
