Male and female dress, late 14th-early 15th century, (1910). Dress of the time of Henry IV, (1399-1413). The male houppelande has lost its dagged sleeves, although the shoulder epaulettes retain traces of dagging. The baldrick, hung with bells, was a fashion introduced from Germany. The belt is worn round the waist rather than the hips, and the bagged sleeves became fashionable in about 1400. Illustration from British Costume during 19 Centuries by Mrs Charles H Ashdown, (London, 1910).
