'York Water Gate and the Adelphi from the River by Moonlight', c1850. Full moon over the River Thames with the York Water Gate, a landing-stage for London river traffic. St Paul's Cathedral can be seen in the far distance. In the foreground two boys are mud-larking, collecting whatever the tide has left. This view predates the construction of the Embankment
