John Flamsteed, English astronomer and clergyman, 1712 (1725). Born in Denby, Derbyshire, and educated at Cambridge, Flamsteed (1646-1719) was appointed the first Astronomer Royal by Charles II in 1675. After a portrait of 1712, appearing as the frontispiece to the first volume of Flamsteed's Historia Coelestis Britannica. (London, 1725).
