'Shakers near Lebanon', c1870. Members of the Mount Lebanon Shaker Community, Lebanon Springs, New York State, 'dancing' at their meeting. The Shakers are an offshoot of the Quakers, who firmly believe in the principle of celibacy. The full name of this millenarian sect was the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing.
