A Puritan Family - father teaching his family to sing Psalms rather than vayne and tryflying ballades, 1563. From the position of his hands it seems he is using a mnemonic device such as the Guidonian hand to signal which note to sing. From frontispiece of Tenor of the whole Psalmes in Four Parts .
