Charles George Gordon, English soldier, called 'Chinese Gordon', 1885. Gordon (1833-1885) was killed at Khartoum, Sudan, on 26 January 1885 when forces of the Mahdi overwhelmed the city. Chromolithograph portrait published 1885 showing Gordon in uniform wearing orders and decorations.
