'A Change for the Better', 1867. A protestant minister has removed his embroidered top clothes which look very much like the chasubles worn by Catholic priests. Punch, of course, violently and regularly opposed any infiltration of Catholic ritual into British churches and, in this cartoon, Mother Church applauds the fact that she has her own Protestant boy again. Mr Punch, his arms full of garments, looks out of the picture in a knowing way at the viewer. From Punch, or the London Charivari, September 21, 1867.
