Wooden Liu Hai figure with three-legged toad, early Qing dynasty, China, c18th century. A tall carved wood figure of Liu hai holding a string of cash in one hand and his three legged toad cradled in the crook of his other arm. The back of the figure has multiple natural grooves and holes preserving the natural features of the wooden piece. Liu Hai was a 10th century Daoist alchemist who has become associated as the god of wealth and prosperity. He is often shown with a three-legged toad and a string of cash.
