'View into Sir L. Alma-Tadema's Studio through the Entrance Door', late 19th century. Doorway to the studio of Dutch-born British painter Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912), with the Latin inscription 'Salve' (Welcome) on the lintel. The house in Grove End Road, St John's Wood in London, had previously belonged to another painter, James Tissot. From "Modern Art Monographs".
