[Albert Auguste Gabriel] Hanotaux, French Minister for Foreign Affairs - unquestionably the ablest Foreign Minister France has had in our time; the Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot, the owner of Alton Towers; Major [Henry Ponting?] Northcott, Commanding the British Forces in the Gold Coast Hinterland - The troops under his command number some fifteen hundred men of the Gold Coast Hausas, about half of the 2nd West India Regiment, and a body of Fantee police; the late Miss Frances E. Willard - President of the [American] National Women's Christian Temperance Union; Major Arthur Horsman Coles; the late Bishop of Bedford (Dr. Billing) - often [spent] the greater part of the night in the streets in search of outcast and homeless poor; the late Sir James Stansfeld - Under-Secretary of State for War and Financial Secretary to the Treasury; the late Major Thomas Jenner Spitty - landowner, [foxhunter], Justice of the Peace and captain in the East Essex Militia'.
