Thomas Henry Huxley, British biologist, 1871. Huxley (1823-1883) at the time of his presidency of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. He was known as 'Darwin's bulldog' for his championship of the theory of evolution by natural selection after the publication of Darwin's On the Origin of Species in 1859.
