The Tale of Shuten Doji, Edo period, 1700. Scene from the Japanese tale of the demon-giant Shuten-Doji, who lived in a mountain fortress, kidnapping and devouring young noblewomen. Here the hero Minamoto Raiko and his band of warriors prepare to enter Shuten Doji's fortress where they kill the giant after he falls asleep from drinking a wine potion.
