The painter's studio, 1888. The artist presents his studio in Paris, and portrays himself in the back room, painting a figure in 17th-century dress. León y Escosura was also an important collector and antiquarian, and splendid works of art adorn the room: in addition to old and modern paintings, he depicts a rug, books and ewer on a table, and a clock and candlesticks on the mantelpiece. He draws our attention to the easel, on which sits a copy of Raphael's Saint George and the Dragon, (Louvre Museum). Other famous paintings hang on the walls, among them The Family of El Greco, attributed to Jorge Manuel Theotocopuli (Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando), which belonged to León y Escosura.
