The Love Embrace of the Universe, the Earth (Mexico), Myself, Diego and Señor Xólotl, 1949. Self portrait with her husband and fellow painter Diego Rivera, and an Aztec god. Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) made work inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Her naïve folk art style explored questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements, and mixed realism with fantasy. She has been described as a surrealist or magical realist. Found in La Colección de Arte Mexicano Moderno y Contemporáneo de Jacques y Natasha Gelman.
