'The Indian Juggle.', 1858. '(As performed at the Theatre Royal, Westminster.)' An Indian elephant juggles Palmerston (top left) and Disraeli (top right), the two politicians responsible for introducing the two conflicting India Bills. Lord John Russell, who had proposed a compromise to resolve a potentially sticky situation, is held in the elephant's trunk in between the other two men. All three, and the elephant, are becomingly dressed in contemporary circus costumes. From Punch, or the London Charivari, May 15, 1858.
