'The Cool of the Evening', Lord Houghton, English poet and politician, 1870. Richard Monckton Milnes, 1st Baron Houghton (1809-1885), was a member of the literary set known as the Apostles Club. Elected a Conservative MP for Pontefract in 1837, he became a political associate of Palmerston, who raised him to the peerage in 1863. A print from Vanity Fair, September 3rd 1870.
