Celebrations to mark the royal wedding of Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia, and Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, son of Queen Victoria. 'Some public buildings of St. Petersburg were illuminated, Messrs. Defries, of London, being employed for this work. The illuminations of the British Embassy are the subject of one of our Illustrations. They were provided by Messrs. Defries, whose patent crystal apparatus, with various emblematic devices, produced a brilliant and beautiful effect'. From "Illustrated London News", 1874.
