'The Battle of Glenshiel', c1880. The Battle of Glen Shiel was a battle which took place in the West Highlands of Scotland on 10 June 1719, between British government troops (mostly Scots) and an alliance of Jacobites and Spanish, resulting in a victory for the government forces. Sometimes considered an extension of the Jacobite rising of 1715, more correctly a separate rebellion and the only rising to be extinguished by a single military action. It is sometimes known as the Nineteen. From British Battles on Land and Sea, Vol. I, by James Grant. [Cassell Petter & Galpin, London, Paris & New York, c1880]
