'Surrender of the King of France at Poitiers', September 1356, (c1880). John II (26 April 1319-8 April 1364), also known as John the Good was a monarch of the House of Valois who ruled as King of France from 1350 until his death. In September 1356 during the 100 years war, Edward the Black Prince, took an army through France, John pursued him and the two forces met south of Poitiers where John was captured and surrendered by offering his glove.
