Stokesay Castle, Shropshire, 1997. Seen here is the west range including the Great Hall, looking towards the south tower. Stokesay Castle is the finest and best-preserved 13th century fortified manor house in England. It was fortified by Lawrence de Ludlow, a wool merchant, who died in 1294.
