Shichikan celadon dish with phoenix and peonies, Ming dynasty, China, 16th century. Large celadon dish with wide flat rim decorated in the centre with carved design of a spread-winged phoenix with flaming pearl. The cavetto has carved peonies, and the rim has parallel wavy lines all under a glassy celadon glaze of 'shichikan' type.
