Sack of Rome, 1527, (1856). Mutinous Imperial troops of Charles V, led by Duke Charles III of Bourbon, (1490-1527), seized and sacked the city of Rome on 6 May 1527, disobeying the Emperor's orders, which were to put pressure on the Pope Clement VII but not to occupy the city.
