Relief of Paris: arrival of a vessel in the Seine with provisions from London, 1871. Franco-Prussian War: 'the unloading of a steam-boat at the Quai de Louvre, which was the first vessel that came up the Seine to Paris, freighted entirely with articles of food. This boat is named the Seine et Tamise, but was formerly called the Esther. She belongs to London, and had taken more than a fortnight to perform the voyage hence to Paris, being delayed many days in the river by the ruins of the bridges destroyed between Rouen and Paris. Her cargo was composed of salt meat, salt fish, potatoes, flour, butter and cheese, oranges and lemons'. From "Illustrated London News", 1871.
