Portrait of Frederick Henry of Nassau, Prince of Orange, 1632. Frederick Henry (1584-1647) is portrayed half-length, armed with a general's torch, his armour and plumed helmet resting on a desk. A military man of strong personality and solid character, he was elected stadtholder in 1625. He continued the military policy against Spain, allying himself with France and England in the Thirty Years' War .
