Pierre Belon (1517-1564) French naturalist, 1553. Belon aged 36. In 1546-1549 Belon undertook an extensive scientific journey through Greece, the Middle East, Egypt and Arabia, publishing an illustrated account of his travels in 1553. He was one of the first to work in the field of comparative anatomy.
