Otto Lilienthal's glider, 1890s, (1932). German gliding pioneer and aeronautical inventor Otto Lilienthal (1848-1896) made about 2,000 flights before being killed in a crash. Eugene and Moritz Garbáty, who were Jewish, were driven out of business by the Nazis in the late 1930s, and forced to sell their factory which lay empty for over 70 years.
