Mrs Farquharson of Finzean, The Artist's Stepmother, 1871. Mary Anne Girdwood, was the artist's stepmother. She came from Edinburgh and was just two years older than Joseph Farquharson. After her husband's death she lived on at Finzean with her two stepsons, Robert and Joseph. In the 1890s she holidayed in Egypt with Joseph and his good friend John Singer Sargent.
