Alexander von Humboldt, (Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt), (1769-1859) was a German naturalist, biologist, explorer, geographer and astronomer. Between 1799 and 1804, Humboldt travelled extensively throughout America, exploring and describing it for the first time from a scientific point of view. Humboldt is seated on a chair, with a plant in his hand. It was created by Reinhold Begas, (1831-1911) in 1882.
