'Lieutenant General Sir Rufane Shawe Donkin, K.C.B. & G.C.H.', 1841. Portrait of Sir Rufane Shaw Donkin (1773-1841), British soldier and colonial administrator. Donkin went to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa on sick leave after the death of his young wife. He named the rising seaport of Algoa Bay Port Elizabeth in memory of her. He committed suicide in 1841.
