'Lieut. Genl. Sir Eire Coote. K.B. K.C.&M.P.', 1816. Equestrian portrait of British soldier and politician General Sir Eyre Coote (1762-1823), who fought in the American War of Independence, and against the French in the West Indies. Coote also served as Governor of Jamaica, but was dismissed from the army after 'conduct unworthy of an officer and a gentleman', arising from an incident where he offered money to boys at Christ's Hospital school in exchange for flogging him. Print published by R Evans, 1816.
