'Liberty and Fame introducing Female Patriotism to Britania', 1784. Britannia, seated on a throne holding out a laurel wreath towards the Duchess of Devonshire, who is being led towards her by Liberty and Fame. The British lion is lying at Britannia's feet. Beneath the title is etched 'She smiles - Infused with a fortitude from Heaven. Vide Shakespears Tempest. Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, was politically very active, supporting and campaigning on behalf of Charles James Fox and the Whigs.
