'Les Cuirassiers de Reichshoffen', 6th August 1870, Franco-Prussian War, 1870-1871. French cavalry in action during the Battle of Reichshoffen (Battle of Worth), the first major engagement of the war. The battle was a defeat for the French, with 700 cuirassiers killed by close range fire in a counter-attack on the village of Morsbronn. From a private collection.
